What is the difference between OSPF E2 Routes and E1 Routes

What is the difference between OSPF E2 Routes and E1 Routes

Look at the figure above, when using OSPF dynamic routing, all routers exchange Link-State Packets between each Router. Router A is Autonomous System Border Router (ASBR) because it advertises external link to internal Routers. With RIP, IGRP, EIGRP the external network is in one type, but with OSPF the external network is redistributed by 2 types: E1 and E2

R1#show ip route
Codes: C - connected, S - static, I - IGRP, R - RIP, M - mobile, B - BGP
D - EIGRP, EX - EIGRP external, O - OSPF, IA - OSPF inter area
N1 - OSPF NSSA external type 1, N2 - OSPF NSSA external type 2
E1 - OSPF external type 1, E2 - OSPF external type 2, E - EGP

E2 is the default routes type for routes learned via redistribution. For example, Router C and other routers in the routing domain will learn external networks that Router A redistribute with cost from Router A to external network.

If Router A is configurable with E1. At this time, Router C in the routing domain will learn external networks via Router A with cost is cost of Router C to Router A and Router A to destination network
RA#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
RA(config)#router ospf 1
RA(config-router)#redistribute rip subnets metric-type 1
After configure external type 1, the cost from RouterC to External network is larger the cost from RouterC to external network with E2 configuration.

Vizio Announces New 7 Tegra 3 And 10 Tegra 4 Tablets With An Ultra Light Body

Vizio Announces New 7 Tegra 3 And 10 Tegra 4 Tablets With An Ultra Light Body

If you like Nexus tablets, Vizio is gunning for your wallet. Today, the company announced a duo of tablets running stock Android. The first is most similar to the Nexus 10: a 10" display with the same retina-melting 2560x1600 resolution, only this one is powered by a Tegra 4 processor. Kal-El may not be a slouch, but lets be real. Its hard to not envy the 72 GPU cores that Wayne is packing.

Here are the known specs for the device:
  • 10" 2560x1600 display
  • Tegra 4 SoC
  • 32GB storage
  • Front & rear cameras
  • Mini USB (Yes, mini not micro; see center photo below)
  • Micro HDMI
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean (model shown running 4.1)

As if that wasnt enough, the company also announced a direct Nexus 7 competitor. This one is nearly identical to Googles model: it packs a 1280x800 IPS display, 16GB of storage, and stock Android Jelly Bean (again). This one is also chugging along with the same Tegra 3 processor as its Nexus inspiration, which may be a downside given that these tablets arent slated for release until some time in the "first half" of the year. Of course, when manufacturers talk about years in halves, its usually because they arent close enough to the final production to nail down even the month of release. Technically even June would still be within that estimate, but by then who knows? We might have new Nexus tablets at that point. After all, I/O happens in May.

Here are the specs we know for this device so far:
  • 7" 1280x800 IPS display
  • 16GB storage
  • 1.2MP front-facing camera
  • Android 4.2 (demo models running 4.1.1)
  • Micro USB
As with the 10" slate, this 7" model is running stock Android although, very curiously, it appears to be utilizing the old style of UI. As you can see in the photos above, the time and notifications appear in the bottom right corner and the navigation buttons in the bottom left. Hopefully this is something that will be rectified by release as, not only is it confusing to market "stock Android" to consumers without carrying along the consistent experience, but the old interface is just uncomfortable on a seven inch display.
No word yet on pricing or availability for either of these devices, but once we get some more info, you will.

JOSEPH HINDy, a Recognized developer on XDA.

Android 4.2 AOSP releases are flying off the shelves like space toys in the 1960s. While it took a little longer than the frenzy of 4.1 AOSP-based ROMs, momentum has finally picked up on the latest version of Android. It likely won’t be long before a whole bunch of devices get releases. For now, AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II and LG Optimus Me P350owners can have some CM10.1 fun.

Viber Provides Free and Easy Calls and Messages

Viber Provides Free and Easy Calls and Messages

Viber Provides Free and Easy Calls and Messages

Viber is a fresh, new, and easy-to-use take on VoIP calling from your Android device. It allows you to call and text anyone free and clear anywhere on the globe as long as you both have the Viber app and a data or Wi-Fi connection. With more than 40 million users on both Android and iPhone, Viber remains completely free and without advertising. While VoIP from a mobile device is not a new concept and is a crowded field to be in, Viber is still able to stand out. This is because of its design, implementation, and the fact that you just can’t beat free.
Registration and Finding Your Friends
The very first thing that caught my attention with Viber is the signup process. If there is one thing I hate, it’s filling out forms and typing in passwords on a mobile device. Even on a desktop or laptop, I much prefer one-click signup options. With Viber, they’ve put some thought into the signup process, basically eliminating it entirely.
You don’t need another username and password. Viber simply allows you to use your phone number as your “identity” on their network. On the same note, you’re able to call your friends using their phone number. So, not only do you avoid having to remember yet another login, but you can easily connect with your friends on Viber without having to know anything but their phone number.

Viber Contacts
This implementation of the registration process makes it seamless for new users to start using Viber. You need no technical skills or knowledge of how it all works behind the scenes to get up and running. It also eliminates the issue of finding your friends once you’ve activated Viber as all you need is their phone number. If you have friends that are not on Viber, you can invite them in a couple of taps and they can be up and running in a matter of seconds.
Along those same lines, there is no need to import, upload, or add new Viber contacts. Viber automatically integrates with your Android contacts and tags those people in your phone book who are using Viber. I was surprised to see how many of my contacts were already using Viber when I had only just heard of it.
Making and Receiving Calls
Viber runs in the background on your device without draining your battery, so you won’t miss any call from your Viber contacts. You can optionally display a persistent notification to remind you that it’s available. When making calls, you have a few options: you can launch the Viber app from your home screen, your app drawer, or a persistent notification. From there, you can either dial a number directly or choose from your Viber contacts.

Viber Call
You can also set Viber as the default for making phone calls on your device. What’s cool about using Viber this way is that it automatically handles the situation if the person you’re calling doesn’t have Viber. In that case, the call will be placed like a regular call using your cellular provider and plan, so you don’t have to remember who actually has Viber. Of course, you definitely want to invite your friends to Viber so that you can save those plan minutes.
Sending and Receiving Messages
While you’re saving your minutes making calls with Viber, you can save your messages through Viber too. It provides a threaded conversation view that will remind you of most instant messaging applications. It’s also a lot like messaging on a certain other platform.

Threaded Messaging with Images
Each message you send can optionally include your location. Viber also includes the ability to send images by either choosing from your photo gallery or snapping a new image. As you can see in the screenshot, there is also a Free Call button that will allow you to quickly initiate a VoIP call if messaging turns out to be insufficient for the moment.

Viber Message Alert
One nice touch about the Viber messaging feature is the notifications. When you receive a new message, you are alerted by your standard Android notifications in your notification bar, but there is also a alert window that allows you to view and respond to the new message without missing a beat.
Call Quality
In my testing of Viber, call quality was excellent on both ends. According to Viber, their “cutting edge technology ensures HD sound quality that is much better than GSM or a regular phone call” and it’s pretty obvious they have something special going on there. I’ve tried numerous VoIP solutions on Android and Viber definitely comes out on top for quality in my book.
Final Thoughts
Viber is ahead of the game due to their ease of registration alone. It’s easy to sign up, painless to locate your friends, and can be integrated into your daily routine without a second thought. Viber’s free calling is going to be most useful to those frequently connected to Wi-Fi as that is where you get the most bang for your buck: no minutes or data used on your calling plan. If you’re running low on minutes and don’t use much data, you also come out on top by using Viber for voice calls.
Keep in mind, Viber also comes in handy for international calling. As long as both parties have the Viber app and an Internet connection, it doesn’t matter where on earth they happen to be standing. The call will still be free thanks to Viber. Standard text messaging and picture messaging via Viber will also be a huge benefit depending on your situation.
I found Viber reliable for the most part. I had a couple of force closes, but nothing I couldn’t chalk up to my own device as I didn’t have similar oddities on a stock Incredible 2 that I tested it on. With the easy setup, excellent call quality, and instant message notifications, there really is no reason not to give Viber a try.

What Is Google Now and How Do I Use It

What Is Google Now and How Do I Use It

What Is Google Now and How Do I Use It?

When Jelly Bean was officially announced, Android users had a lot to be excited about. The latest version of the OS is super-smooth (like Butter!), there are expandable notifications that actually include functionality, there is a better keyboard, better widgets, and a better camera/gallery.
The biggest announcements, of course, were the addition of a better voice search, and with it, Google Now. So what is Google Now? Let’s find out!
Google Now is still very much in beta, so I will keep that in mind as a talk about it.
Google Now, as Google puts it, “brings you just the right information at just the right time”. The idea is that Google Now will use everything it ‘knows’ about you to deliver timely information based on your schedule, location, hobbies, time of day, and more.

Cards

Google Now presents you with this information using what they call Cards, and Android will notify you when a new Card pops up (based on your settings). For example, Google Now hit me with this card during the Yankees/Red Sox game because it knows the Yankees are my favorite baseball team:
Low blow, Google. Low blow.
I’ve organized the information Google Now presents you into two categories: Day-to-Day and Travel. Let’s look at Day-to-Day first.
To access Google Now, you just need to press ‘Google’ in the search bar that appears at the top of each screen, or swipe up from the Home button.

Day-to-Day Information

Part of what Google Now presents to you is information that will help get you through the day. This includes:
  • Weather
  • Traffic
  • Appointments
  • Public Transit
  • Sports
  • Places Nearby (which can be in both categories)
I’ve already shown you Sports. Google Now will use you previous searches to determine which teams you’re interested in and present you real time scores of those games. You can easily manage teams in the Settings, in case Google picks up a team you don’t really care for.
Weather is probably pretty self-explanatory; it will get your location and give you the current conditions as well as the five-day forecast. There is an option to always display this card or only display it in the morning or in the evening (for the next day’s forecast).
Local Weather

Public Transportation and Places Nearby

Both Public Transportation and Places Nearby are based on the location reading from your device’s GPS. Public Transportation will give you schedules when you’re near a Bus or Train station, as well as ‘when traveling.’
Places Nearby will show you exactly that: notable places in the area. This one is a bit interesting. I’ve been using Jelly Bean for a couple of weeks now but I can’t tell how Google Now discerns what is notable to show you. I did notice that some time after I Googled ‘Chic Fil-A’ to read up on all the recent hubbub surrounding the company, Google Now told me when I was near an establishment, but I believe there is more to it than just Google searches.
Public Transportation and Nearby Places

Appointments and Traffic

Appointments and Traffic could very well be the most useful as far as day-to-day stuff goes. With Appointments, Google Now will grab your next appointment from your calendar and display it as a card as the appointment approaches. If travel is required, it will notify you the day of, and bring up a Traffic card that gives you a traffic report and a link to directions, which is really cool!
Speaking of the traffic card, here is the description according to Google:
Get traffic conditions and alternate routes before you leave for work. Google Now also puts traffic to your next likely destination at your fingertips.
While I have experienced the latter, my commute has actually been somewhat erratic over the last couple of weeks as I’ve been running errands or making stops along the way, so my phone hasn’t been able to get a good idea of my commute. However, it has noticed I’ve been stopping at the Starbucks on campus and tells me about ones nearby when I leave work. I think as this service learns, it will get considerably better. I’ll be very interested to see how it does in a couple of months time.
Traffic based on recent search.

Travel Information

There are some services I didn’t mention above that I think better fit into the category of Travel Information. They are:
  • Flights
  • Translation
  • Currency
  • Time Back Home
Places Nearby would also qualify for this section, as I’d imagine you could probably rely on it a bit in an area you’re unfamiliar with.
Flights will grab information on flights you’ve searched for with Google and give you updates on status and traffic to the airport. This is a pretty interesting one because (since I haven’t flown since getting Jelly Bean) I’m not exactly sure how it works. My inclination would be that it could grab the flight info from your calendar, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. The card looks very cool and the idea is great, but the jury is still out on how well it works for me.
Upcoming Flight Info
Translation, Currency, and Time Back Home are much more intuitive as far as functionality and usage go. Google will grab your location and show each of the three based on the following (respective) criteria: you visit a place with a different language, you visit a place with a different currency, or you’re in a different time zone from the one you’re normally in. It would seem that with the former two, Google takes its best guess at which language and currency is being used.
Travel cards (images from Google Now’s official site)

Thoughts

The idea behind Google Now is a great one — it’s a personal assistant that doesn’t need to be engaged by the user. Theoretically, it should just work. It will also learn based on your habits and search history, which is a fascinating concept. Of course, you can be as open with it or as private as you’d like; if location and web history aren’t turned on, Google Now won’t give you too much information as it’s not getting much from you.
I’m not going to rate it because I don’t think it really fair. I haven’t travelled outside of where I live while using it and for some functionality, I haven’t given good enough patterns for it to work to it’s full potential. It’s also still in beta. I will say that from what I’ve seen, it is very cool and incredibly helpful at times. It has some very serious potential, as well as implications for the future of mobile devices.

Windows 10 release date price features The next version of Windows will run on everything smartphones tablets laptops and PCs

Windows 10 will launch in 2015. And isnt called Windows 9!
Its fair to say that Windows 8 has not been a universal success. In many ways a necessary step not terribly well executed, Windows 8s attempt to stitch together desktop and mobile has been way too radical to encourage new users. And as the longer life of existing PCs and laptops combines with the growth of smartphones and tablets to continually slow PC sales, Window 8 has come to be seen as a dud. This means two things: a new and improved Windows in the fastest possible time and - oddly - a jump in numerals to Window 10. (See also: Windows 9 rumours freeze corporate Windows 8 uptake.)
Perhaps the biggest news about Windows 10 is that it will be - in Microsofts words, "One product family, one platform, one store". For the desktop version of Windows 10, there will be no more duality, as Joe Belfiore put it. That means no more split personality between modern apps and the old desktop.

Expanded Start menu
Windows 10 will look and work a lot more like Windows 7 than Windows 8, and it will be a place where traditional and modern apps co-exist happily. The Start menu - shown below - will return and it will be customisable, including being resizeable.

Apps that run in a window
Modern apps will run on the desktop, just as had been rumoured and theyll be resizeable just like traditional apps.
Improvements to Snap
Windows 7s snap function will work with all apps, whether new or old. A new layout means you can snap four apps on the same screen. A new feature called Snap Assist allows you to grab apps from multiple desktops within Task View.
Task View
Theres a new button on the taskbar called Task View. Press it and you will see a thumbnail of all the apps which are open. Its very much like Mac OS Xs Expose feature, and thats a good thing. Its Microsofts way of helping novice users to get familiar and proficient with multitasking.
Multiple desktops
Windows 10 will also support multiple desktops, instead of requiring you to find your own way of doing it.
The new version will be also very much about making those who were unhappy with Windows 8 happy again. The focus is very much about the keyboard and mouse, but those who have devices with touch capabilities havent been forgotten.

Windows 10: why is it called Windows 10?

During the short briefing in San Francisco when Microsoft unveiled Windows 10, it made it clear that the next version would be very much unified across all types of devices with screen sizes from 4 inches to 80 inches. It confirmed that the next version of Windows Phone - after 8.1 - would be 10 and said, "This product, when you see the product in your fullness I think youll agree with us that its a more appropriate name."
When questioned about ARM-based Surface tablets, the answer was, "were building the software to update vast majority of devices out there."
Microsofts Terry Myerson summed it up with, "Windows 10 represents the first step of a whole new generation of Windows, unlocking new experiences to give customers new ways to work, play and connect. This will be our most comprehensive operating system and the best release Microsoft has ever done for our business customers, and we look forward to working together with our broader Windows community to bring Windows 10 to life in the months ahead."
